on-line vote for a digital art contest in the phil

Wed Jan 3, 2007, 6:22 AM
Part of Websining 2007 digital art contest is a public voting period from
January 4-15, 2007. Please review the entries to the contest in all the
categories and vote using the 0-5 STAR rating found at the bottom of each entry.
The 0-5 STAR rating panel will appear the website starting January 4.

=========================
Websining 2007 Voting FAQ
=========================

1. Why is the voting period so long?
We think that it is good to have some time to see ALL of the entries, and take
the time to decide.

2. Should I cast a rating on all the entries?
Yes! We highly recommend this.

3. What if I have a question or comment about the artwork?
We encourage everyone to provide some kind of feedback to the artists
about their work - some short commentary through the Websining gallery,
and if you prefer a much longer commentary (perhaps you have
some questions you'd like the artist/s to answer), then you can post it
on the Websining 2007 Forums here [link]

4. Can people cheat in the voting?
As in the national elections, yes, cheating can happen. :) A user can create a
number of pseudo-accounts and vote 0 on all the other entries and 5 on the entry
the user wants to win. However, IPs can be tracked and pseudo-accounts exposed.

Public voting not only comprise 1/3 of the final results (two judges per
category will vote and decide on any special citation awards), but the public
voting also represents a kind of "popularity" rating, as well as an exercise of
the "open-source community" concept where everyone is free to contribute. So the
success of this community will really depend on the honesty and integrity of all
its members.

5. What do the various STAR ratings mean?
The STAR ratings are standard in the Coppermine CMS.

0=Rubbish
1=Poor
2=Fair
3=Good
4=Excellent
5=Great

Please suggest rating scales that we might be able to develop for future.
